A nucleic acid extracting device comprising a shaker (3), a centrifugal separator (5), a particle feeding mechanism (8, 9) for feeding a plurality of kinds of particles of different diameter, a chemical liquid feeding mechanism (11) for feeding a chemical liquid, arms (13, 14, 15) for conveying specimens or tubes containing specimens, and a control means (20), the control means (20) controls the extraction of nucleic acid, such that a tube having particles of larger diameter and a specimen fed thereto is shaken and applied to the centrifugal separator (5) to separate a nucleic−acid−containing substance from the specimen, and a tube having particles of smaller diameter and the specimen fed thereto is shaken to subject the separated nucleic−acid containing substance to the centrifugal separator (5), thereby crushing the nucleic−acid−containing substance and extracting the nucleic acid.
