A vertebral stabilization assembly (10) for stabilizing vertebrae (20, 34) i s provided. The vertebral stabilization assembly includes a first (12) and a second (14) pedicle screw, a first (40) and second (42) connecting screw, an d a connecting member (50). The first (12) and second (14) pedicle screws each having a shaft (16, 30) provided with a threaded portion for operable threading engagement of the first (12) and second (14) pedicle screws with a first (20) and second (34) vertebra, respectively, each shaft also has an engaging portion (22, 36). The first and second connecting screws (40, 42) each having a first end adapted to be received by the engaging portions of t he first and second pedicle screws. The connecting member (50) has a first end (52) connected to the first connecting screw (40) and a second end (54) connected to the second connecting screw(42) . A guide member (150) for placement of the connecting screw and method for anteriorly stabilizing vertebrae is also provided. |
