PURPOSE: To prevent a noise in the form of lateral line from appearing on a reproduced picture. CONSTITUTION: A decision part 11c counts a horizontal synchronization signal HD while a read state signal HREF rises, namely, while the output of an image signal Y(t) from a CCD image sensor 1 is stopped. This count value is compared with a preset decision reference value and when the count value exceeds the decision reference value, an instruction is applied to a line feeding control part 11b so that a horizontal transfer part 1h of the CCD image sensor 1 can be driven for transfer. In response to this instruction, in the line feeding control part 6, a horizontal transfer timing signal HT rises and the horizontal transfer part 1h is driven for transfer through an H-clock generating part 2h. Thus, while the output of the image signal Y(t) is stopped, an unwanted charge caused by a dark current stagnant in the horizontal transfer part 1h is discharged.
