METHOD FOR PRODUCING METAL PLATED PLASTIC ARTICLE

A method for producing a metal plated plastic article, which comprises forming a thermoplastic resin material having a shear strength of 50 MPa or more, subjecting the surface of the formed article to a liquid honing treatment with an alumina based grinding agent so as for the surface to have a surface roughness Rz (10 point average roughness) of 10 μm or more, followed by application of a catalyst, activation treatment and electroless plating. The method can be employed for producing a metal plated plastic article having a plated surface of high quality without chemical etching treatment and without the use of a resin having a great content of an inorganic filler which has been conventionally used in order to form a physically roughened surface effective at achieving good adhesion of a plating layer.
