PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic substrate for a display element excellent in heat resistance and chemical resistance, low in the mean coefficient of linear expansion and having good surface smoothness. SOLUTION: A core layer being a prepreg prepared by impregnating fiber cloth with a resin and drying the impregnated fiber cloth is held between two surface layers, each of which is formed by coating a metal foil with a thermosetting resin, so that the thermosetting resin becomes inside and, after the whole is molded under heating, the metal foil is removed to manufacture the plastic substrate for the display element.
