<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology which can prolong the working life of a refractory of a melting furnace wall while suppressing damages thereof, and a technology which can obtain a molten metal with homogeneous composition thereof while maintaining a high production efficiency when obtaining the molten iron by arc-heating a preliminarily reduced metal in the melting furnace. SOLUTION: In a molten metal manufacturing method in which the preliminarily reduced metal is fed to a stationary non-tilting type melting furnace, and the metal is melted by the arc heating mainly composed of radiation heating, the refractory wearing index RF expressed by the formula RF=P×E/L<2> is maintained at <=400 MWV/m<2> , where RF is the refractory wearing index (MWV/m<2> ), P is arc power (MW) for one phase, E is an arc voltage (V), and L is a shortest distance (m) between an electrode side surface of a tip within an arc-heating furnace and an inner surface of a furnace wall.</p> |
