<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an optical element capable of forming a high quality optical element free from optical defects, free from an out of order caused by deviation of the outer diameter, and free from inexpedience such as sticking of the formed product to the upper mold. SOLUTION: This method for forming an optical element comprises mounting a glass material 30 on a lower die 8 in a forming chamber 25, evacuating inside the forming chamber 25, heating the glass material 30 to be softened and removing a volatile component from the glass material 30, press forming the glass material 30 by a forming mold consisting of the lower die 8 and an upper die 5 opposingly disposed with the lower die and pressed down to the lower die side to obtain the optical element, wherein the upper die 5 has deep spherical segment of forming face and the lower die 8 has shallow spherical segment. The method is characterized by having a process that the glass material 30 is made access to the forming face of the upper die 5 having deep spherical segment before press forming, and a part of the glass material 30 is faced within a space of the spherical segment of the upper die 5.</p> |
