PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine which can sufficiently reduce the amount of hazardous substances exhausted from the combustion chamber. SOLUTION: Based on an air/fuel ratio of a mixture gas before ignition, hazardous substance generation zones A and B in the combustion chamber are identified, and a purifying catalyst corresponding to the hazardous substance generated in the hazardous substance generation zones is arranged at the inner wall portion of the combustion chamber adjacent to the hazardous substance generation zones.
