PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque detecting device that can detect the difference in magnitude of torque applied to a torque transmission shaft on the basis of the difference in amplitude of alternating current. SOLUTION: A pair detecting coils 5, 6 are provided in connection with a pair of magnetic anisotropic portions equipped on the outer peripheral surface of the torque transmission shaft. When alternating current is applied from an oscillator 12 to each detection coil, each detection coil generates alternating current corresponding to impedance (Z1, R1, L1: Z2, R2, L2) in a circuit containing each detection coil. Each alternating current is adjusted to have the same value by variable resistors R1, R2 and a trimmer capacitor Ca when no torque is applied to the torque transmission shaft, and the output of an AC differential amplifying circuit 21 is zero. When torque is applied to the torque transmission shaft, the impedance is varied, and some difference occurs in amplitude between the alternating currents generated in the detection coils, and the difference in torque applied to the torque transmission shaft can be detected on the basis of the difference in amplitude by the AC differential amplifying circuit.
