PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for an air conditioner capable of improving the reliability of the air conditioner by surely and quickly detecting dew condensation generated on a blow-off port of an indoor machine to prevent the damage of a room by dew condensation water, and also to improve the air conditioning performance by not performing the excess protective control and enlarging an operation range by performing the operation control available in each situation while considering the dew condensation generation factor. SOLUTION: The dew condensation is detected by fixing a dew condensation sensor 31 utilizing the electrical insulation releasing principle on the approximately full longitudinal length of the blowing-out port 5 of the indoor machine. Further, the operation of the air conditioner is controlled to prevent the dew condensation water from dropping in the room by considering a dew condensation generating condition. A dew point temperature of the sucked air is detected, so that when an evaporation temperature in the evaporative heat exchanger is lower than the dew point temperature, the capacity of the indoor air blasting fan is increased, and the compressor is operated in a state of lowering the operation frequency until the evaporation temperature becomes more than the dew point temperature.
