PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a member for molten metal having high adhesive strength and excellent erosion resistance to the molten metal by forming an oxide, a nitride or an oxide-nitride on the surface of a metallic material as a base material, and production method therefor. SOLUTION: The metallic base material at a portion in direct contact with the molten metal, is constituted of one or more elements among Zr, Cr and Mo, and a post-treatment of one or more kinds among an oxidizing treatment, a nitriding treatment and an oxidize-nitriding treatment, is applied on the surface of the metallic base material to form a ceramic coating film composed of one or more kinds among the oxide, the nitride and the oxide-nitride.
