PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element having a high display contrast. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element is furnished with a pair of substrates 11 which are arranged to face each other, a plurality of electrodes which are disposed on the inner surfaces of a pair of the substrates 11 and a light control layer 12 which is held between a pair of the substrates 11 provided with the electrodes, includes a multiplicity of liquid crystal microcapsules 15 having guest-host liquid crystals 13 formed by adding a dichromatic dye to liquid crystals and films 14 covering these guest-host liquid crystals 13 and transparent to visible light, and interposes resins 16 consisting of a material different from the material of the films 14 and transparent to the visible light therebetween, and it is characterized in that the degree of adhesion between the films 14 and the surfaces of the substrates 11 is higher than the degree of adhesion between the films 14 to each other.
