PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an automatic transmission capable of smoothly shifting with neither causing racing of an engine nor drawing in a shift control. SOLUTION: This control device for the automatic transmission is provided with the automatic transmission attaining a first speed gear stage by engagement of first engaging means and attaining a second speed gear stage by engagement of second engaging means, and control means, when determining a shift from the second speed gear stage to the first speed gear stage, shift-controlling to release the second engaging means and engage the first engaging means. The control means is so constituted as to detect the extent of a torque signal a prescribed time before determining the shift in the shift control and to control the release of the second engaging means according to the extent of the torque signal. |
