METHOD OF MANUFACTURING COPOLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a copolymer which is excellent as a dispersant with good repeatability by radical polymerization of a polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether compound with maleic anhydride in a non-solvent system or an organic solvent system. SOLUTION: In a method of manufacturing a copolymer having a structural unit based on a polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether compound and a structural unit based on maleic anhydride, this method of manufacturing a copolymer uses as a feed material a specific polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether compound containing not more than 50 ppm alkali metal, and copolymerized in a non-solvent system or an organic solvent system under a condition of not higher than 0.5 % water in the reaction system.
