PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a managing method and device capable of determining a dust amount more accurately for resolving a problem of an electrophotographic device such as a copying machine or a printer caused by dust from transfer paper. SOLUTION: A paper presser 7 is provided on a paper mounting tray 3 capable of reciprocating on a frame 1 by a slide rail 2, a support member 8 is provided in its neighborhood fixed to a top face of the frame 1, and a contact member 10 is provided so that it is vertically driven by a vertically moving cylinder 9 attached to the support member 8. A means of sucking the dust is provided in a neighborhood of a position where the contact member 10 comes into contact with the paper P. A grinding wheel or the like is provided on the contact member 10. The dust from the paper P by sliding contact is collected, weight is measured, and the dust amount such as fiber or filler from the paper P can be grasped by digitizing it.
