PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of photographing a person without changing compositions between an automatic focusing mode and a photographing mode by focusing on the face of the person in a screen regardless of the position/range of the person in the screen. SOLUTION: A CPU 115a detects the face of the person among pieces of inputted image data and performs automatic focusing control with at least a portion of the detected face of the person as a distance measurement area.
