PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic carrier for bonding a nucleic acid having such a structure that is obtained by coating ferromagnetic iron oxide particles with silica, in which the bonding property of the nucleic acid to the silica coated surfaces are improved, and the isolation and purification efficiencies of the nucleic acid can be improved. SOLUTION: The magnetic carrier for bonding a nucleic acid in which ferromagnetic iron oxide particles are coated with silica, and amino groups or carboxylic groups are imparted to the silica coated surface as functional groups. Especially, the functional groups are imparted by using a silane coupling agent for amine modification or carboxylic acid modification.
