PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for measuring a length of a gullet in order to obtain simply and surely a saw chain of a good cutting quality by arranging uniformly an upper tooth projecting amount and a side tooth projecting amount of each cutter of which the importance is not recognized when set filing of a cutter of the saw chain is carried out. SOLUTION: In order to measure a clearance between a depth gauge of the saw chain and its blade part by inserting a saw chain gauge between them, the saw chain gauge comprises a wedge-shaped main body 23 of about 3 to 6 mm thickness, 16 to 42 cm length, about 4 mm tip width and 15 to 25 mm end width, and a numerical value indicating the width and gradations 25 are provided from the tip near to the end on a part seen from the surface to provide a wedge-shaped saw chain gauge 20.
