CONTROL SYSTEM FOR SPARK IGNITION TYPE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately maintain balance of fuel spray penetration and tumble flow intensity varied with re-circulation of exhaust gas in stratified combustion operation of an engine. SOLUTION: In a spark ignition type direct injection engine igniting air-fuel mixture under a condition the same is stratified around a spark plug by injecting fuel from a fuel injection valve 18 to oppose to tumble flow generated in a combustion chamber 6 in stratified combustion operation of the engine, an exhaust gas re-circulating means re-circulating part of exhaust gas to intake system, and a penetration control means comprised of a fuel pressure control means 52 or the like controlling fuel spray penetration according to engine speed in stratified combustion operation of the engine and setting the fuel spray penetration to a higher value when exhaust gas re-circulation ratio is high as compared to a value when exhaust gas re-circulation ratio is low at same engine speed are provided.
