摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the light scattering efficiency of a polymer dispersion type liquid crystal. SOLUTION: Electric fields in two directions orthogonal with the the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal 2 are selectively applied to the polymer dispersion type liquid crystals by electrodes 3a and 3b arranged to hold polymer dispersion type liquid crystal 2 in-between and electrodes 4a and 4b arranged along a substrate 1b, thereby, the liquid crystals are uniformly oriented in either one direction in correspondence thereto. While the scattering in random orientation is utilized with the conventional PDLC, since the uniform orientation state is utilized, the scattering efficiency is improved. This liquid crystal device is applicable even when the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal 2 has a memory characteristic.
