PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system for an internal combustion engine provided with a fuel injection device capable of performing optimum fuel injection and superior in minimum fuel injection quantity characteristics even if a fuel injection valve (injector) is miniaturized to reduce inductance value of a solenoid. SOLUTION: This control system is the control system for the internal combustion engine provided with the fuel injection device including a solenoid. The control system is provided with a means detecting operating states of the internal combustion engine, a means calculating fuel injection pulse width based on the operation states, and a solenoid control means. The solenoid control means is provided with a means supplying valve opening current to the solenoid until valve opening current value reaches a large designate current value based on the fuel injection pulse width, a means supplying retaining current to the solenoid for retaining a valve open state after valve opening current reaches the designated current value, and a current wave form control means forming current supplied to the solenoid into plural different shaped wave forms and selecting the current wave form based on the operating state.
