PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a perfluoroalkylsulfonyl halide, which does not require a large amount of a solvent, has no by-product of a halogen cyanide, has high safety, completes reaction in a short time, has easy isolation operation and a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing a perfluoroalkylsulfonyl halide comprises continuously or intermittently adding a 2-perfluoroalkylethanethiol or a solution obtained by dissolving a 2-perfluoroalkylethanethiol in a solvent (a) to a mixed solvent of water and a solvent b which is inert to the reaction and can dissolve a part or the whole of the 2-perfluoroalkylethanethiol and a part or the whole of chlorine or bromine in the presence of chlorine or bromine so as to successively chlorosulfonylate or bromosulfonylate 2- perfluoroalkylethanethiol. The solvent (a) and the solvent b are a carboxylic acid and/or a carboxylic acid ester, respectively.
