PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vulcanizate excellent in low temperature durability and oil resistance as well as in permanent compression set, and a rubber composition which can be used as a starting material thereof. SOLUTION: The vulcanizable rubber composition comprises a nitrile group- containing copolymer rubber (A), an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid metal salt (B) and an organic peroxide (C), where the copolymer rubber (A) comprises 10-40 wt.% of anα,β-ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer unit (a), 10-60 wt.% of anα,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylate monomer unit (b), 0.01-56 wt.% of a conjugated diene monomer unit (c) and 14-69.99 wt.% of a saturated conjugated diene monomer unit (d), the total content of the monomer unit (c) and the monomer unit (d) being 20-70 wt.% and the ratio of the content of the monomer unit (d) to the total content of the monomer unit (c) and the monomer unit (d) being at least 70 wt.%, and has a difference of 10 deg.C or less between an extrapolated plate transition starting temperature (Tig) and an extrapolated glass transition ending temperature (Teg), as measured by the differential scanning calorimetry.
