PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which automatically decides whether a person is photographed without any user's trouble and automatically performs lighting suitable for portrait photography. SOLUTION: A CPU 115a detects the face of the person in inputted image data, computes an exposure quantity according to a photometric result based upon the detected face of the person as a photometric area, and performs exposure control according to the computed exposure quantity.
