PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an animal model with infection in the oral cavity, the animal model with the infection in the oral cavity prepared by the method and a method for screening an active substance having prophylactic and therapeutic effects on infectious diseases in the oral cavity using the animal model with the infection in the oral cavity. SOLUTION: This animal model with the infection in the oral cavity is obtained by administering an agent for anesthetizing an animal belonging to the order Rodentia, anesthetizing the animal, then orally inoculating the anesthetized animal with a microorganism, sustaining the anethesia for a prescribed time and thereby making the microorganism ecesic in the oral cavity of the animal. The method for preparing the animal model is provided. As preferred embodiments, the agent is either one or both of a tranquilizer or an anesthetic agent and the microorganism is a fungus. The animal belonging to the order Rodentia is a mouse.
