PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling pains or a burden on the cardiopulmonary function of a patient without using the anesthesia and for maintaining the body temperature of the patient in a prescribed range by increasing the central temperature over a wide range. SOLUTION: The center temperature and the dermal temperature are detected by a temperature measuring means 2, and the heating value of a heating means 1 is increased/decreased by a control means 4 for the adjustment so that the dermal temperature doesn't exceed a prescribed temperature. The heating value is decreased if the central temperature doesn't easily rise or when the dermal temperature temporarily lowers due to the perspiration or circulatory kinetics, etc., and is increased again when the body temperatures antagonize each other. At the time, the heating value is corrected by the control means 4 considering the reaction of the organism to the previous heating. The temperature control apparatus includes the control means for heating while repeating the above- mentioned cycle.
