PURPOSE: A device for preventing an accident of a vehicle is provided to prevent traffic accidents and improve convenience by driving automatically with keeping a safe distance from a front vehicle when driving on a linear road for a long time, and by warning a driver to step a brake in an emergency caused by sudden deceleration of the front vehicle. CONSTITUTION: An accident preventing device of a vehicle comprises a vehicle speed detecting unit(90) detecting speed of vehicle; a laser irradiating unit(20) detecting the velocity of the preceding vehicle and the distance from the preceding vehicle by irradiating the laser beam in turning on an automatic control switch(10); a laser receiving unit(30) receiving the laser reflected on the preceding vehicle from the laser irradiating unit; a signal processing unit(40) converting the laser signal from the laser receiving unit into the digital signal; a calculating unit(50) calculating the velocity of the preceding vehicle and the distance from the preceding vehicle according to the signal from the signal processing unit; a photographing unit(60) taking a photograph of the travel line and the preceding vehicle in turning on the automatic control switch; a photo reading unit(70) reading and outputting the picture from the photographing unit; and a control unit(100) controlling operation of a warning unit(80) based on signals from the signal processing unit, the photo reading unit and a vehicle speed detecting unit and regulating the speed by controlling an engine(110) and a throttle actuator(120).
