PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject placing table for an image pickup apparatus allowing easy positioning of a subject, allowing reduction of a time necessary for the positioning especially in the case of a group medical examination, and capable of realizing reduction of a burden on an operator and improvement of working efficiency, and to provide an image pickup apparatus and an image pickup method using it. SOLUTION: This subject placing table 10 is provided with shoulder pads 20, 30 at a prescribed interval in the short direction at a prescribed longitudinal distance from a surface upper end part 1a of a top plate 1, and is provided with handles 40, 50 movable along groove parts grasped by both hands of the test subject 60. The subject 60 is placed on the top plate 1 in a prostrate posture, the handles 40, 50 are moved and fixed to most easy-to-grasp positions, a control part of the pickup apparatus estimates a scan start position of the subject 60 from the positions of the pads 20, 30 and calculates a movement distance of the top plate 1 on the basis of the estimation result. A drive part moves the top plate 1 by the movement distance, and the scan is executed with moving the top plate 1 with the position as the scan start position. Thereby, a scan image of a prescribed portion is obtained.
