PURPOSE: A call processing apparatus of an access gateway and a method thereof are provided to use a V 5.2 link when performing a Call Set-Up and switch the V5.2 link to a switch network of an inside of an access gateway after setting a Call, thereby directly connecting subscribers belonging to the same access gateway. CONSTITUTION: An access gateway(60) includes a plurality of POTS(Plain Old Telephone Service) junction circuits(70a,...,70b) and E-1 junction circuits(80a,...,80b) which makes identical conjugate values of an impedance between circuits to reduce power loss. The access gateway(60) also includes a switching network(90) for selecting and connecting a path of a call. The E-1 junction circuits(80a,...,80b) are connected to a digital exchange(100) for selecting and connecting a path or line of a call. The call generated by a call of a sender as a subscriber is transmitted to a switching network(90) through the POTS junction circuit(70a). The switching network(90) is connected to a first V5.2 link through the E-1 junction circuit(80a) to a digital exchange(100) for connecting a call. The digital exchange(100) selects a path of a call and connects a second V5.2 link to the access gateway(60) to connect a call to the terminator through the E-1 junction circuit(70b), the switching network(90) and the POTS junction circuit(70b), so that subscribers perform a telephone call each other.
