An apparatus and a method for processing a plurality of programs are provide d having the following features. A program may be selected from a plurality of programs for recording. The selected programs is then stored into a first li st of programs representing programs selected for recording. A program may also be selected from the plurality of programs for both purchasing and recording . The selected program is then stored into a second list of programs representing programs purchased. This selected program is also automatically stored into the first list of programs representing programs selected for recording. In addition, when cancelling, a previously purchased program, a determination is made to see whether the purchased program also appears in t he list of programs selected for recording. If it appears in the recording list , then the program is also automatically removed from the recording list, when the purchase is cancelled.
