PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating an organic and/or inorganic non- oxidizable substance in wastewater efficiently and economically in a long-term stable manner. SOLUTION: When oxygen-containing gas and wastewater are supplied and subjected to wet oxidation treatment at 370 deg.C or lower under pressure holding the wastewater in a liquid phase by using a catalyst composition and/or at least two kinds of catalysts different in catalyst composition ratio, the gas and the wastewater are allowed to flow in a descending parallel flow state and treated in a manner such that the content of at least one kind of a component selected from ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, platinum and activated carbon as the A-component among the components contained in the catalysts becomes much from an inlet to an outlet with respect to the flow direction of wastewater.
