PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a punch press capable of realizing a high hit rate and an energy-saving punch drive. SOLUTION: A plate material transfer control means 32 and a ram shaft control means 33 which are both controlled synchronously are provided. By these means, the plate material begins to move when a punch tool 6 rises to the height HH2 slipped out after punching, and the plate material is so designed as to reach the height HH1 on the brink of contacting the plate material when the plate material comes to a full stop. The ram shaft control means 33 works to rotate a servo-motor 19 in one direction. The ram shaft control means 33 controls a punch tool 6 by the motor speed pattern VP in accordance with the distance of the plate material transfer after the punch tool 6 goes up from the height HH2 slipped out so as not to halt the servo-motor 19. The motor velocity pattern VP used here is the trapezoidal pattern having a constant acceleration.
