PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle moving type vertical machine tool capable of machining work in the Y direction without moving a spindle itself. SOLUTION: The spindle moving type vertical machine tool 1 is provided with a spindle 3 capable of holding a work W, a spindle head 13 holding the spindle 3 and rotating the spindle around the shaft line, a machining device 9 disposed at the side of the spindle 3 and holding a work machining tool T, a first servomotor 21 moving and positioning the spindle head 13 in the Z direction parallel to the direction of the shaft line, a second servomotor 29 moving and positioning the spindle head 13 in the X direction perpendicular to the Z direction and extending from the spindle 3 to the machining device 9, and a third servomotor 43 moving and positioning the machining device 9 in the Y direction perpendicular to the X and Z direction.
