PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus and a coating method capable of preventing coating failure in a layer to be layered on an underlayer even if coating failure takes place in the underlayer. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus is a coating apparatus for forming a plurality of layers on a continuously running belt-like substrate and comprises an upstream side coating means for forming an underlayer by applying the first coating liquid, a downstream side coating means which is positioned in the downstream side of the upstream side coating means in the running direction of the substrate and forms an upper layer on the underlayer by applying another coating liquid with similar or dissimilar composition to that of the first coating liquid, and an undercoating liquid supply means for supplying an undercoating liquid to a non-coating part, where the first coating liquid is not applied, before the non-coating part reaches the downstream side coating means in the case the non-coating part is generated at the time of forming the underlayer. The coating method is carried out by employing the apparatus. |
