PURPOSE: A call switching apparatus of an image terminal and a method thereof are provided to automatically switch a call mode for user's convenience by recognizing an image call mode by using infrared ray generated from a human body. CONSTITUTION: An infrared emitting unit(100) emits infrared rays according to an electric signal. An infrared receiving unit(200) receives the infrared rays emitted from the infrared emitting unit(100). A microcomputer(300) compares quantity of light of an infrared receiving signal outputted from the infrared receiving unit(200) with a reference quantity of light and accordingly senses a call mode.
