PURPOSE: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition containing fermented extracts of Achyranthis bidentatae Radix and Atractylodis Rhizoma as active ingredients. The pharmaceutical composition prevents and treats arthritis. CONSTITUTION: Achyranthis bidentatae Radix and Atractylodis Rhizoma(0.5:5.0) are extracted in a solvent such as purified water, ethanol, methanol or propanol and filtered to produce a supernatant. The supernatant is then fermented at 20 to 75deg.C for 2 to 36hr. A pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of arthritis contains the fermentate and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt and is formulated into an extract, a pill, a granule, powder and a hard or soft gelatin capsule.
