PURPOSE: A muffler for reducing noises of a 6-cylinder diesel engine is provided to significantly reduce noises of engine explosion stroke by effectively reducing the pulsating noise frequency of 100Hz and 200Hz. CONSTITUTION: A muffler(1) has a cylinder(2) which is divided into first to third chambers(5,6,7) through two elliptical supporting and separating partitions(3,4). Each of elliptical supporting and separating partitions has exhaust gas flow holes(8,9,10) formed at the positions of 180, 225 and 270 degrees, respectively, at the surface corresponding to 3/4 point, based on the longer axis of each of the elliptical supporting and separating partitions, and a main flow pipe(11) formed at the surface corresponding to 1/4 point. The main flow pipe communicates the first chamber to the third chamber. The main flow pipe has a cross section with a size at least twice of the cross sections of the exhaust gas flow holes.
