PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup which can commonize the functions of a driving circuit which drives an optical recording medium of a plurality of formats, and which can improve the pulse response characteristics at the same time. SOLUTION: The optical pickup includes a plurality of light emission circuits 101 and 201 performing the writing and the reading for a plurality of optical recording media, a driving circuit 301 driving each of the light emission circuits 101 and 201 and having at the last stage a plurality of amplifier circuits which amplify the current of a writing or reading signal corresponding to each, a switching circuit 302 switching the connection of the driving circuit 301 with each of the light emission circuits 101 and 201, and a switching control circuit 507 switching the switching circuit 302 so as to connect to one light emission circuit 101 which is driven by the writing or reading signal, on the basis of the writing or reading signal which is supplied to the driving circuit 301. |
