PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable reading image data accurately. SOLUTION: A uniform light irradiated via an imagery element 2 is picked up by an imaging element 1. Output data of the element 1 which are obtained by picking up the uniform light are referred, thereby forming function data having temporary parameters expressing both the amount of light at each picture element position of the output data and the amount of three-dimensional offset. By changing the parameters, the output data of the element 1 are approximated to the function data. Inverse numbers of data wherein data relating to the amount of light are eliminated from the function data after approximation to the output data of the element 1 are made correction data. On the basis of the correction data, the output data of the element 1 are corrected. When irregularity exists in each element of the element 1, or strictness does not exist in relative positioning between the element 1 and the element 2, this state becomes a changing parameter, and shading is corrected accurately.
