PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a display screen to properly bright to be easily watched in accordance with ambient brightness even though a user does not adjust brightness. SOLUTION: A digital still camera 1 is connected to an image reproducing device 40. If the image reproducing device 40 makes a request of the camera 1 for an image file, the camera 1 transmits the image file to the image reproducing device 40 in response to the request. The image reproducing device 40 transmits brightness requirement data to the camera 1. Then, a CD of the camera 1 performs imaging processing to obtain data (image data) representing brightness. The camera 1 transmits the obtained brightness data to the image reproducing device 40. Since brightness around the image reproducing device 40 can be recognized in accordance with the brightness data, the display screen 42 is adjusted so as to be of appropriate brightness corresponding to the ambient brightness.
