PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control valve type lead storage battery having a reliable airtightness and enabling air discharge in case of emergency. SOLUTION: The control valve type lead storage battery 1 comprises a container 2 having a storage element 4 and an opening in one side, a cover body 31 covering the opening and having a recess 33 on a main surface and a liquid inlet 7 in the recess 33 sealed by a safety valve, a top cover 32 closing the recess 33 and fixed to the cover body 31, and air outlets 9 and ditches 35 passing through air outlets 9 in the top cover 32. The ditches 35 are formed so that the width is expanded around the air outlets 9.
