PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery that has superior large current output property with low internal resistance, large volume energy density and constant quality. SOLUTION: This lithium secondary battery has a winding type electrode where a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate, in which one of a positive electrode active material layer and a negative electrode active material layer is formed each on a collecting substrate, are wound on a core periphery via a separator. The positive electrode active material of the battery composes the positive electrode active material layer, and comprises lithium permanganate of the cubic spinel structure which contains lithium (Li) and manganese (Mn) as main components and has the Li/Mn ratio of more than 0.5. Then the positive electrode plate has a bulk density of the positive electrode active material layer not less than 2 g/cm<3> and not more than 3.5 g/cm<3> , and has a stripe structure in which the positive electrode active material layer is not formed on at least one end in the widthwise direction of the collecting substrate. Furthermore, the length of its winding direction is 1 m or more. |
