PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a timing signal extraction device in which an operation is automatically started at the time of starting without using a voltage control oscillator and which is stably operated by the combination of parts that can easily be obtained. SOLUTION: Signal light is inputted to an optical modulator 202 and is optically modulated. It is converted into an electric signal in an opto-electric transducer 203. A narrow band filter 204 extracts a prescribed frequency component and an amplifier 205 amplifies it. A two branching unit 206 branches the signal. One signal branched into two is outputted to a signal output terminal 209 as a timing signal and the other is multiplied by three in a three-times multiplier 207. It is amplified by an amplifier 208 and is given to the optical modulator 202. The optical modulator 202 obtains the amplitude modulation light output of a frequency which is k-times as much as the changed frequency of the driven electric signal.
