PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a stochastic screen which ensures superior image quality and is resistive to frequency dependent dot arrangement and dot to dot mutual reaction. SOLUTION: This method consists of a step (A) for forming an initial screen pattern wherein a black picture element corresponds to a black picture element in a restriction checker disk pattern about a first gray level, a step (B) for forming a next screen pattern corresponding to a specified gray level darker than the first gray level, a step (C) for repeating the step (B) about a gray level between the first gray level and a second gray level, a step (D) for forming a second next screen pattern corresponding to a specified gray level darker than the second gray level, and a step (E) for repeating the step (D) about a gray level between the second gray level and a third gray level.
