PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the reliability of management information. SOLUTION: In a recording medium such that both a land and a groove are used as a recording track, a management area is constituted so that only the land is used for recording management information rewritable as the recording track, and so that a groove track is not used. This provides the laser power setting specialized in a land track in the management area, and makes the consideration about a cross light to the groove track unneeded, which is produced due to recording on the land track. Therefore, the tolerance of laser power for recording management information can be extended, and a reliable recording operation can be achieved. And, management information recorded can be appropriately maintained since management information of the land track is not be erased by the cross light due to recording on the groove track.
