PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicolor image forming apparatus which prevents excessive developer consumption and forms a multicolor image and a monochromatic image which have a well-balanced image density and a correct color. SOLUTION: When a plurality of image forming parts 15a to 15d are used to form a multicolor image, the quantities of toner to be stuck to photosensitive faces 13a to 13d are adjusted by adjustment means 20a to 20d so as to be made gradually smaller from the first image forming part 15a upstream in the recording paper carrying direction E toward the fourth image forming part 15d downstream. When the first image forming part 15a is used to form a monochromatic image, the quantity of toner to be stuck is adjusted to be made smaller than that for multicolor image formation. Because of this adjustment of the toner sticking quantity, the multicolor and monochromatic images having well-balanced image densities and correct colors can be formed regardless of a reverse transfer phenomenon. Since the toner sticking quantity is adjusted to the most suitable quantity, excessive toner consumption is prevented. |
