PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the vibration of a vibration damping means itself in a radiograph reader configured to suppress the vibration of a belt with the vibration damping means and to suppress image nonuniformity resulting from feeding nonuniformity in a subscanning direction by conducting subscanning of a cumulative phosphor sheet by elevating and lowering a member holding the sheet with a belt hung over a driving pulley. SOLUTION: This radiograph reader drives a means for connecting a cumulative phosphor sheet holding member and a balancing member for helping the movement of the holding member under the existence of the vibration damping means, moves the cumulative fluorescent substance sheet in a subscanning direction and performs principal scanning with excitation light. The image reader has a means for suppressing the vibration of the vibration damping means itself.
