PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whose reliability and usability are improved by preventing defects such as damage to a fixing device or image degradation resulting from the feeding of an OHT (overhead transparent) sheet for ink-jet, preventing damage to the fixing device when feeding a cardboard having a thickness exceeding a specified value and reporting these pieces of information to a user. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a light irradiation means to irradiate the surface of a recording material with light, a video reading means to read the inside of a region of the surface of the recording material irradiated by the light irradiation means as a video and to output it, and a judging means to judge whether the recording material is a prescribed paper sheet or not from a read result. The image forming apparatus is further provided with a control means which stops transport of recording material to the fixing device, or stops the heating of the fixing device, or lowers a heating temperature than in usual fixing when the judging means judges that the recording material is other than the prescribed paper sheet. |
