PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost image forming apparatus with a small and simple mechanism, which prevents a transfer fault in an image formed by position variations and lack of pressure, etc., of a transfer nip formed by a transfer belt contacted with and separated from an image-holding element and driven, and forms a high quality image. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a transfer means 3 for transferring a toner image formed on the image holding element 1 to an object to be transferred (P) by using a development means 2, a transfer belt 3a for sucking and carrying the object to be transferred (P) in the transfer means, a transfer frame 3b for turnably supporting the transfer belt 3a, a contacting, separating and driving means 4 for turnably driving the transfer frame 3b and contacting the transfer belt 3a with the image-holding element 1 and separating the transfer belt 3a from the image-holding element 1, and a butting member 6 for butting the transfer frame 3b, with a support member 5 for supporting the image holding element 1 by using the contacting, separating and driving means and forming the variable transfer nip (N) between the image-holding element 1 and the transfer belt 3a. |
