PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a machine for mounting a component arranged such that occurrence of suction miss due to suction miss is prevented by detecting the contamination state of an air filter in a nozzle for suction holding a component and mounting it on a circuit board. SOLUTION: A mounting head 10 mounting a suction nozzle 1 is moved freely by an XY robot 7 and a component suction held by the suction nozzle 1 from a component feeding section 5, 6 is mounted on a circuit board 4. The mounting head 10 moves to a nozzle station 2 in order to replace the suction nozzle 1 depending on the kind of a component being sucked. At that time, a luminance sensor 15 detects the contamination state of an air filter 8 in the suction nozzle 1 above the nozzle station 2.
